Beer and Ice Cream

If Arwen was a human, she'd easily weigh 370 lbs.  Her favorite foods are beer and ice cream.  (And yes, I think Guinness can be considered a food.)  She finds the best seat in the house and can usually be seen curled on her back with all four paws in the air.  She's a glutton that slurps up any crumbs, spills, and drops left over on the kitchen floor.  She will lay beneath our feet while we eat and stare longingly at our food and hands.  If she had the power of telekinesis, all our food would launch itself out of our hands and into her gaping mouth as by catapult!

Insert noms here

We discovered the magical hold beer and ice cream have over Arwen very much by accident.  Ice cream she discovered on her own as she leaned closer and closer to my spoon while I ate distractedly.  Beer was a spill she managed to handle faster and more efficiently than you could say "paper towels!".  Now lest you think we're horrible eaters with nothing but junk in our fridge, let me tell you what else we've discovered about Arwen's foodie nature.  There are other things she won't turn down - fresh spinach, peas, sandwich bread (any bread, really), crabmeat wontons (absolute accident), wine, any fish, a mouse (we were feeding a frozen thawed mouse to our snake years ago - yes, really) and a bird (caught straight out of the air- quite impressive, really).

Arwen is an equal opportunity scrounge in every sense of the word.  And did I mention begging is a regular part of her repertoire?

See that I'm a poor hungry dog?  I haven't eaten in at least 20 minutes!

  1. Ummm, Arwen is Dakota reincarnated - she was such a food hound, ate anything and everything except bananas. Thunder and Ciara would both probably eat anything too, but they get less opportunity for the human food as long as it is the Momster in control. Dad is incorrigible. And then there is Phantom, he has his likes and dislikes, but just getting him to eat regularly is a real challenge.

Arwen sure doesn't look any the worse for her cravings - she looks great, happy, and quite content. Love those two photos.

  2. Wow birds are hard to catch- woo have to time your jump just right...I'm impressed. I prefer the raw & wiggling treats myself too but #1 is a bit of a pansy about such things. Ice cream is good- also one of everyone's favorites.

  6. Our pups haven't shown a preference for beer, but my sister's husband and her Clydesdale have been known to have a beer or two in the evenings.

  13. Hi Y'all!

Wow Arwen! You'd be in BIG TROUBLE in this house! With my food allergies the Humans are very "on top" of any accident and you'd most likely end up in a crate anytime food was out of a container.

Uncrate the food and crate the dog...ROOOOOOOO, Roooo!!!

    Y'all come back now,

  16. That is too funny. I think she willed the ice cream into her pointy snooter. "Noms, come to me!" My Airedale had a thing for wine and much to the alarm of our guests would happily slurp out of any glass left in range.

  18. Oh, Tommy is in the same class as Arwen - indiscriminate scavenger, although to be fair he has rejected broccoli and bananas.

  19. I think that our dogs would be 370 lbs too, if they figured out how to open the fridge! They love ice cream more than anything but we haven't tried beer on them :)

Awesome begging look in that last photo!

  23. This is absolutely hilarious--and sounds just like Scout! Scout adores herself some peanut butter, but she's also not too snobby to turn down grass and flowers in the back yard. I think she and Arwen could have fun scavenging together :)
